Black marble is a natural material that “seems heavy with lasting quality,” whereas black trash bags are consumable materials that are “light, cheap, and can be thrown away anytime.” Chronic combines these two qualities and associations to create various images and effects, such as conflicting perception, visual dialectics, and contradicting symbols.
